RIP. <\/p>\n<p><strong>OPENING SONG: Hello Song*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>OPENING FINGERPLAY: Open Them Shut Them*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>BOOK: Chicken Soup with Rice<\/strong> by SENDAK<br \/>\nWhere the Wild Things Are<em> is really the perfect picture book, but Chicken Soup is my all-time favorite Sendak. &#8220;Oh my oh once, oh my oh twice, oh my oh chicken soup with rice.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/photo.goodreads.com\/books\/1176077222l\/590552.jpg\" alt=\"Chicken Soup with Rice\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>BOUNCE: Mashed Potato<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>I can&#8217;t remember where I came across this idea. It&#8217;s just a little bounce game. With the child on your lap, slowly list a number of different kinds of food. When you say &#8220;Mashed Potato!&#8221; drop them gently through your knees. Today, we substituted &#8220;Chicken Soup!&#8221; for &#8220;Mashed Potato!&#8221; For example:<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Sliced banana<br \/>\nGreen beans<br \/>\nChocolate cake<br \/>\nChicken soup!!!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>FLANNEL SONG: A Hunting We Will Go*<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>BOOK: Yummy Yucky<\/strong> by PATRICELLI<br \/>\n<em>This one always makes the moms and dads laugh. I don&#8217;t read all the pages, just enough to give everyone the flavor of the book.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.indiebound.com\/503\/619\/9780763619503.jpg\" alt=\"Yummy Yucky\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>GUESSING GAME: Very Hungry Caterpillar<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>I said, &#8220;Those are all yummy things in that book! Here&#8217;s some more yummy things&#8230;an apple, a plum&#8230;&#8221; The Very Hungry Caterpillar was hiding behind one of the pieces of fruit! I did this several times, and the older toddlers&#8217; face just LIT UP when they realized they could see where he was hiding. You will be helping your child start to make the connection between the words we say and the words on signs and labels.
