In fact I built this whole storytime as an excuse to sing it! Thanks to my friend <a href=\"http:\/\/missmaryliberry.wordpress.com\/\">Miss Mary Liberry<\/a> for introducing me to Seattle children&#8217;s musician <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nancymusic.com\">Nancy Stewart<\/a>, who suggests pairing it with <strong>I Love Animals<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>BOUNCE: A Farmer Went Trotting<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A farmer went trotting<br \/>\n<em>Bounce baby on lap, facing you<\/em><br \/>\nUpon his gray mare<br \/>\nWith his daughter behind him<br \/>\nSo rosy and fair<br \/>\nThen a duck cried out, &#8220;Quack!&#8221;<br \/>\n<em>Lift baby up<\/em><br \/>\nAnd they all tumbled down<br \/>\n<em>Plop baby back into your lap<\/em><br \/>\nOff of the horse<br \/>\nAnd upside down!<br \/>\n<em>Tip baby gently backwards!<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>FLANNEL SONG: A Hunting We Will Go*<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Today we used mare\/chair, duck\/truck, hen\/pen, goat\/boat<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>BOOK: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?<\/strong> by BILL MARTIN JR<br \/>\n<em><a href=\"http:\/\/melissa.depperfamily.net\/blog\/?p=402\">Last week<\/a> we sang this, but this week I read it, stopping at every page and asking what sound each animal made.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>SONG: Where Is Brown Bear?<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Sing to the tune of &#8220;Where Is Thumbkin?&#8221; Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/storytimekids.wordpress.com\/\">Storytime Kids<\/a> for this idea! Repeat with several animals.<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Where is brown bear? Where is brown bear?<br \/>\nHere I am! Here I am!<br \/>\nHow are you today, bear?<br \/>\nVery well, I say, bear.<br \/>\nGrowl, growl, growl.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <strong>LITERACY TIP: Phonological Awareness<\/strong> <em>This skill is all about hearing the smaller sounds in words. Listening to and making animal noises is gives little kids lots of practice hearing some of the different sounds of English, and practice making them, too! (If you have bilingual parents in your group, it&#8217;s fun to ask them to share what roosters or pigs say in other languages.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>BOOK: I Went Walking<\/strong> by SUE WILLIAMS <\/p>\n<p><strong>RHYME: I Went Walking to Town One Day<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>I chanted this, and held up puppets for each verse. Repeat with other animals. This one came from Storytime Kids too!
