I made this set to go with the lovely song “Lily Pond,” which I learned from the Elizabeth Mitchell album You Are My Little Bird (you can watch a charming YouTube version<\/a> of it and buy the track here from Smithsonian Folkways<\/a>, yay, go support them). It’s actually a Vashti Bunyan<\/a> song, though, and you can hear her sing it on this YouTube compilation<\/a>. <\/p>\n

This was fun to make and fun to sing–I added it to my revamped “All Singing” baby storytime plan<\/a>. The clouds and sun reverse to the stars and the moon. <\/p>\n

This is how I put the pieces up as I sing: <\/p>\n

In a lily pond I lay
\nplace lily pond on bottom of feltboard<\/em><\/p>\n

All upon a summer’s day
\nplace sun on top of feltboard<\/em><\/p>\n

And I chased a dragonfly
\nplace dragonfly above lily pond<\/em><\/p>\n

All across an ancient sky
\nplace clouds above dragonfly<\/em><\/p>\n

Falling with a thousand stars
\nflip sun to moon<\/em><\/p>\n

Down the Milky Way to Mars
\nflip clouds to stars<\/em><\/p>\n

Back again in time for day
\nflip moon to sun and stars to clouds<\/em><\/p>\n

In a lily pond I lay
\npoint down at the lily pond<\/em><\/p>\n
