Storytime Resources

This is an updated list that began with links to help with storytime planning collected from PUBYAC listserv members five years ago. Thanks to all of you who spend some of your precious time writing and posting about your storytime ideas and plans, to the benefit of the entire library community. You rock.

This list contains storytime blogs, wikis, websites, and related resources, plus preschool planning sites for songs, crafts, and activities. I am working on a large update this summer (2014) and slowly adding new links. Last updated:

September 15, 2014 = 6 new blogs.
August 30, 2014 = 6 new blogs.
[hiatus to frantically adjust to new job]
June 19, 2014 = 5 new blogs.
June 13, 2014 = 7 new blogs.

If your own blog is not here, or you have a favorite that’s not on this list, please let me know! Conversely, if I added you and you do not wish to be on this list and/or in the custom search, let me know so I can remove you immediately.

Searching the Resources

This search box is a Custom Google Search. I have set it to search through all the sites listed in the Blogs, Wikis, and Sites categories below. The few sites in those categories that are not included for logistical reasons are noted with an asterisk. If you notice your site is not being included properly in the search results, please let me know and I’ll look for a fix.

Tips for using the search: this is the free version, so there will be ad sites listed first in your results. We have noted a fair amount of duplication in the results. Anne at So Tomorrow suggests that you include “storytime” in your search (eg, “pigs and storytime”), to weed out posts with book reviews. If you have any feedback or other search suggestions, please leave me a comment somewhere!

  4. Melissa, thank you for the excellent resources. I am just starting out and I love sharing and giving ideas to other librarians and storytellers.

  5. Amy says:

What a great collection of resources! I’m honored to be a small part of it – you know, I’m just winging it here, but if there is not already a conference where all us storytime people can get together and have fun, exchange ideas and meet irl, there needs to be one. Can you imagine?? The power in a conference like that would be almost enough to cure the energy crisis!

  6. Melissa says:

Thanks, Amy! And I think a national storytime conference would ROCK.

  7. Thank you for this compilation of exceptional resources. This will beneficial for both parents and teachers. Storytelling, crafts and art projects are fun and enjoyable activities the kids will surely love. A national story time conference is a great idea where all people who love storytelling can gather, exchange brilliant ideas and most of all, to have fun.

  8. Vicki Kouchnerkavich says:

Mel, thanks for this awesome resource. I follow many blogs, but don’t have one of my own. Using Google Reader to keep track of my blogs is a great tool. I am participating in a Blog breakout session for the Michigan Library Association Spring Institute next month, along with the creators of: 100 Scope Notes and So Tomorrow. This will be a great list to share.

  9. Lissa Rogers says:
