Flannel Friday: Clean and Dirty Pigs

I learned this one from a coworker, but have since found it out on the Internet too. I stole the idea for pigs clean on one side and dirty on the other from Miss Mary Liberry!

Five Pigs So Squeaky Clean

Sing it to “Five Green and Speckled Frogs”

Five pigs so squeaky clean
Cleanest you’ve ever seen
Wanted to go outside and play
Oink! Oink!
One jumped into the mud
Landed with a big thud
Then there were four clean squeaky pigs.

(Ed. 11/11: I am no longer sharing my clip art files due to copyright concerns, so I’ve taken down the link to the files. This pig is no longer in Microsoft Word clip art, which is where I originally found it, but you may find another clip art pig that would work as well.)

awesome! I’m in a flannel-making groove today, so I printed these out right away. I have a magnet board, so I sandwiched a bit of magnetic backing (a piece cut from the promotional magnets they send in the mail) in between the dirty/clean piggies and laminated the whole thing. I’m pretty sure that voids my laminator warranty, and my piggies don’t look as neat as yours, but it worked.

    Thanks again!

You’re welcome–I’m so happy to share. And I don’t think “neat” is important with this rhyme! 🙂 And what a great solution for a magnet board–with the magnet in the middle, you don’t need something on the outside on both sides like I have with the Velcro. Good thinking!

I love the clip art you use for your flannelboards and my storytime kids got a kick out of “A Hunting We Will Go” today! Where do you find the cartoon images? Is it a specific clip art pack?

    Thanks so much!

Thanks Erin! So happy your kids liked them! I love those cartoons too. Most of the animals (the fox, bear, frog, bee, etc) I found in Microsoft Clip Art a few years ago; they are no longer available there, either in the program or online, which really disappoints me. I have not come across them anywhere else, but I can’t say I’ve looked very hard either, so they may be available to purchase, but I have no idea how to search for something specific like that!

The other objects are usually from Microsoft Clip Art, too, but many (most) of them I have edited, by either taking off black outlines (so that they “match” the no-outline animal style), removing parts of the image, or changing the colors (so they match the animal colors).

If you find them, let me know!!!

Finally catching up on my blog reading… Melissa, I LOVE this! I love 5 Green Speckled Frogs, so it’s awesome to have another song to go with it! And your piggies are so cute!

Someday I’ll do storytime again, and I’m totally going to use this. Thanks! 🙂

I love this flannel board! I used it last week with my toddler group and they loved it. There was an audible *gasp* of surprise when I turned the first pig over 🙂 I hope it’s Ok that I posted this to my storytime blog sunflowerstorytime.wordpress.com (and linked back to your blog of course!) Thanks for all of the wonderful ideas!

Hi Leah! So glad your kiddos had fun with this one. Of course it’s okay to share–I stole the idea in the first place! I just included your blog on my updated Storytime Resources page. Thanks for sharing so many ideas yourself!

I also really loved those pigs and had to have them. Since I couldn’t find them (ANYWHERE!) I copycatted my own vector images and uploaded them to flickr so you can use and share them too!
